Freshly smashed avocado on a warm gluten-free arepa

Avocado Smash Arepa — A Fun After-School Snack Kids Can Make Themselves

June 15, 2026

Give them an avocado and a fork and let them go. Smashing and seasoning their own avocado is a first kitchen skill — and on a warm arepa, the result is genuinely delicious. Kids take real pride in making this one.

Ingredients

  • 2 Zavor & Co gluten-free arepas
  • 1 ripe avocado
  • Squeeze of lime juice
  • Pinch of salt
  • Chili flakes or everything bagel seasoning (optional, for older kids)

How to Make It

  1. Warm arepas in toaster or dry skillet 1–2 minutes.
  2. Cut avocado in half and remove pit (a parent can help younger kids).
  3. Scoop avocado into a small bowl.
  4. Mash with a fork until mostly smooth, leaving some texture.
  5. Add lime juice and salt. Spoon over warm arepa and serve.

Why It Works

Mashing is a satisfying, tactile task for kids — they feel like they cooked something real because they did. Avocado is naturally creamy and filling, with healthy fats that keep energy steady after school. This is the snack that grows with them.
