HOW CAN WE HELP?

Let Us Answer Your Questions

Let's talk about what makes our handmade arepas so special.

Arepas

What is an arepa?

An arepa is a traditional, hand-shaped corn patty that has been a staple in Colombian kitchens for centuries. It is golden and crispy on the outside, while remaining incredibly soft and steaming hot on the inside.

Are arepas the same as tortillas?

They are entirely different from tortillas, both in texture and preparation. While tortillas are thin and flat, arepas are thick and substantial, making them perfect for slicing open and filling, toping them with pretty much anything, enjoying as a satisfying side, or simply eating them alone.

Where do arepas come from?

Arepas trace their ancient origins back hundreds of years to the indigenous peoples of what is now Colombia and Venezuela. They were originally crafted as a daily bread, representing warmth, family, and simple nourishment.

I first discovered Colombian arepas through an animated film set in Colombia. Is this the real thing?

Yes — and we are glad that film sparked your curiosity. What you saw was a glimpse into a tradition Colombian families have lived for centuries. Zavor arepas are the real version — made from the same simple ingredients, the same way Colombian kitchens have always made them..

What does a Zavor arepa taste like?

A Zavor arepa tastes like a warm morning in a Colombian kitchen, offering a delicate, slightly sweet corn and cheese flavor with a deeply comforting, toasted finish. It is a hearty, honest bite that feels instantly familiar.

Simple, Safe, And Honest

Are Zavor arepas really gluten-free?

Yes, every arepa we make is entirely gluten-free. We use naturally gluten-free ingredients like pre-cooked corn flour labeled gluten-free from a reputable international food brand. We ensure that our process remains pure from start to finish by producing the arepas in a dedicated gluten-free facility.

What ingredients are in Zavor arepas?

We believe in keeping things simple and honest. Our arepas contain just pre-cocked corn flour, water, cheese, real butter and salt.

Are they safe for someone who is sensitive to gluten?

Absolutely. Zavor arepas are made in a dedicated kitchen where no gluten products are ever processed. Every arepa is made with naturally gluten-free ingredients in a completely gluten-free environment, making them entirely safe for gluten sensitive individuals.

Are Zavor arepas dairy-free or vegan?

Our current recipe includes mozzarella cheese and butter, both essential for authentic flavor and texture. They are not dairy-free or vegan. If you have dairy sensitivities, please consult your healthcare provider before ordering.

Why do you add cacao to the coffee?

Adding a hint of cacao is our signature Zavor touch, inspired by the Colombian tradition of enjoying both coffee and hot chocolate (chocolate caliente) at breakfast.

The cacao adds richness and depth without sweetness—just a smooth, velvety quality that makes the coffee feel indulgent. It is subtle, never overpowering, and pairs beautifully with arepas.

We think it is how great coffee should taste.

Is the coffee caffeinated?

Yes, our Colombian Supremo coffee is fully caffeinated. It is a medium roast with smooth flavor and just the right amount of caffeine to start your morning. If you are sensitive to caffeine or prefer decaf, contact us—we are happy to explore custom options.

Storage & Preparation

How do I heat the arepas?

Simply pop your frozen arepas straight into the toaster at a high setting until it automatically pops. Repeat the cycle one or two times until they are golden and crispy on the outside and they feel hot. There is no need to thaw them first.

How long do arepas last in the freezer?

Your arepas will stay perfectly fresh in the freezer for several months. Just keep them sealed in their original packaging to protect their homemade texture.

Can I put the arepas in the fridge instead of the freezer?

You certainly can keep them in the fridge if you plan to enjoy them soon. They will stay fresh in the refrigerator for 5 to 7 days.

Can I heat the arepas in something other than a toaster?

The toaster gives you the best result. However, you can warm them up in an oven, an air fryer, or a skillet over medium heat. Just make sure they get nicely toasted on the outside and warm all the way through.

Microwave is not recommended, but you can heat them in the microwave if that is your only option. Note that they can get chewy if heated in the microwave for too long. Start with 30 seconds and continue until they are warm.

How should I store the coffee?

Store your coffee in an airtight container in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. For best flavor, use the coffee within 3-4 weeks of opening. If you want to extend freshness, you can also freeze the coffee in a sealed container—just scoop out what you need and return the rest to the freezer.
