Hummus and colorful vegetables on a warm gluten-free arepa

Hummus and Rainbow Veggie Arepa — Fun After-School Snack Kids Can Build Themselves

June 15, 2026

Set out the hummus and whatever colorful vegetables you have in the fridge — and let them build it themselves. This is the after-school snack that looks like art and tastes even better.

Ingredients

  • 2 Zavor & Co gluten-free arepas
  • ¼ cup hummus (any flavor)
  • ½ cup mixed raw vegetables: cucumber slices, cherry tomatoes, shredded carrots, bell pepper strips
  • Olive oil and a pinch of paprika (optional)

How to Make It

  1. Warm arepas in toaster or dry skillet 1–2 minutes.
  2. Spread hummus generously over each arepa.
  3. Arrange colorful vegetables on top in any pattern.
  4. Drizzle with a tiny bit of olive oil and a pinch of paprika if using.
  5. Serve as a snack plate or let kids build their own.

Why It Works

Kids are more likely to eat vegetables they had a hand in placing. Hummus is a natural dip they already love, and the arepa gives them a sturdy, flavorful base that's way more exciting than a cracker. Works with whatever produce is already in the fridge.
