September 01, 2026

Category: On-the-Go  |  Ready in 15 minutes  |  Serves 1 adult or 2 kids  |  Naturally gluten-free

What You Need

  • 2 Zavor & Co gluten-free arepas
  • 4 cooked meatballs (GF), halved
  • 1/3 cup marinara sauce
  • 1 oz provolone cheese, sliced
  • 1 tbsp grated parmesan

How to Make It

  1. Warm the meatballs in the marinara sauce in a small pan, 5 minutes.
  2. Warm the arepas in the toaster on high, 2-3 cycles.
  3. Pile the meatballs and a light coat of sauce on one arepa and top with provolone.
  4. Close with the second arepa and warm in a dry pan, pressing gently, until the cheese melts.
  5. Wrap in paper; keep the sauce light so it doesn't drip.

About This Recipe

The meatball sub is Italian-American through and through — a red-sauce-and-cheese sandwich born in immigrant delis. Keeping the sauce light and pressing the sandwich is what keeps it together on the go.
