What You Need

  • 2 Zavor & Co gluten-free arepas
  • 8 oz thinly sliced beef
  • 1 onion, thinly sliced
  • 3 tbsp tamari
  • 1 tbsp mirin
  • 1 tsp grated ginger

How to Make It

  1. Simmer the onion in 1/4 cup water until soft, 5 minutes.
  2. Add the beef, tamari, mirin and ginger, and simmer until the beef is cooked and the sauce thickens slightly, 6-7 minutes.
  3. Warm the arepas in the toaster on high, 2-3 cycles.
  4. Spoon the beef and onion over each arepa.
  5. Top with a few scallions if you have them.

About This Recipe

Gyudon — 'beef bowl' — is Japan's fast-food classic: thin beef and sweet onion simmered in a savory-sweet tamari-mirin sauce, ladled over rice. Here it goes on a warm arepa instead.
