Apple slices and almond butter on a warm gluten-free arepa

Apple Slices and Almond Butter Arepa — A Healthy After-School Snack Kids Love

June 15, 2026

Sweet, crunchy, and filling — apple slices and almond butter on a warm arepa is the after-school snack that holds them until dinner. No cooking, no mess, and kids can do it themselves.

Ingredients

  • 2 Zavor & Co gluten-free arepas
  • 3 tbsp almond butter (or peanut butter, or sunflower seed butter for nut-free)
  • 1 apple, thinly sliced
  • Pinch of cinnamon

How to Make It

  1. Warm arepas in toaster or dry skillet 1–2 minutes.
  2. Spread almond butter over each warm arepa.
  3. Core and thinly slice the apple (kids can use an apple slicer tool).
  4. Fan apple slices over almond butter.
  5. Dust with a pinch of cinnamon. Serve immediately.

Why It Works

Almond butter is protein-dense and satisfying, while apple brings natural sweetness and crunch. The cinnamon makes it taste like fall baking. For schools with nut-free policies, sunflower seed butter is a perfect swap that works just as well.
